Sparkling Ale Bottling Day
Posted by:

on 7/9/2011
Last week when I took a gravity reading of my
Coopers Sparkling Ale
and noticed that it had a gravity reading of 1.010 for the 3rd consecutive day I knew it was time to bottle.
Below is a glass of my first brew using the new
Coopers DIY
kit along with the hydrometer tube filled with the Sparkling Ale.
I made the Sparkling Ale with the
Cooper Sparkling Ale kit
,
1.5kg of Coopers Light Malt Extract
,
500 grams of Coopers Dry Malt Extract
, and 500 grams of
dextrose
. The yeast used was the yeast that I harvested from the
commercial Coopers Pale Ale bottles
. You can check out the procedure for this here. I also through in the yeast that came with the Sparkling Ale kit for good measure. The original gravity for the beer was 1.063
I used the
Coopers PET bottles
and some glass bottles that I had. I put the fermenter on the kitchen counter and opened the dishwasher door for easy cleanup.
Notice the lacing left behind in the fermenter while I was bottling.
After bottling was complete, I saved some of the yeast slurry to use in my next brew, the
Coopers Australian Pale Ale
.
I am only going to use the slurry from the Erlenmeyer flask next to the
Coopers Australian Pale Ale kit
.

Can you explain the benefit of this yeast slurry technique over the supplied sachet? Thanks!

Hey Barrie. Good to hear from you again. I liked what I got from the yeast in my previous beer. So I wanted to reuse it. Yeast will change, of course, as it evolves. So the safest course of action is to always use the supplied yeast.

What's the rough alcohol content of Coopers Sparkling Ale using the standard kit? (No reactivated yeast.)

Hi Keith, A rough guideline for the ABV without the reactivated yeast is around 5.6 to 6 percent depending on how much water you use. Happy Brewing!

@max mcclain. The complete beer package that we sell that produces the highest alcohol percentage is the Complete Sparkling Ale package. The recipe about is also good one. You could also get the Australian Pale and use 1 can of unhopped light malt syrup and 500 grams of dextrose. Just to keep it simple.

Bottling Day

@Bob I would force carbonate your beer instead of using the carbonation drops. How big is your keg? Standard Cornelius kegs are 5 gallons. This will leave about a gallon of extra beer to bottle. Use the carbonation drops in the bottles. If you want to naturally carb the beer in your keg, use about 1/4 cup of corn sugar (dextrose) boiled with a 1/4 cup of water. Add to keg first. Add the beer. Seal. Leave at room temperature for a week while the yeast produces CO2.
