Zephyr Light (23 Liters)

Posted by: Makebeer on 1/25/2012
Mix
Coopers Original Series Draught Beer Kit produces a flavor and aroma suited to making Light Beer. The recipe should make a beer at approx 2.9%A/Vol.

Ingredients
1.7kg can Coopers Draught
100g Dextrose/Sugar

Method
1. Dissolve Coopers Draught and Dextrose/Sugar in 2 liters of hot water.
2. Fill fermenter with cool water to the 23 liter mark and stir.
3. Sprinkle supplied yeast over the wort surface.
4. Ferment temperature should be as close to 20°C as possible.
5. Bottle when specific gravity has reached 1.006 (or two readings the same over 24 hours).

Brew
A thinner brew (lower Original Gravity) will make a beer with less alcohol. Where possible, make the brew thinner by reducing additional sugars rather than increasing total volume (dilution of the beer kit contents will dilute the final beer flavor). In most cases dried ale yeast requires some simple sugar. Add at least 100g sucrose/dextrose in 23 liters to assist with fermentation. To avoid the risk of overcarbonation - glass bottles may explode - only bottle your brew when the fermentation process is complete. Fermentation is complete when the density of the brew remains constant over 2 days. We recommend the use of a hydrometer to check the specific gravity (density) of your brew.

So all I need to brew this zephyr is a can of draught and 100 grams of sugar? What about the flavor enhancers? Also do I still need to add the sugar tablets to the bottles? Thanks in advance

@Tony Yes that is all you need. No enhancers necessary. Sugar or carbo drops are still necessary at bottling if you are bottle conditioning.

"This is my first Home brew batch, I got the kit for my B-day, I have been using bleach on everything so-far to sanitize everything. In about 4 of 5 days it will be time to bottle for my first time (I am excited) I think I will run the unused bottles in the dish washer without soap(to remove dust and such) then rinse with a bleach mixture to sanitize, one final rinse with water to get rid of the bleach, then bottle my first batch of beer. I hope my method will give me a good brew. If not please let me know, I am a new to home brew." Read more

"@Piers. There should be adequate amount of yeast in suspension (as long as you don't wait to long before bottling) so as not to shake the beer before bottling. The amount of final carbonation is determined by the sugar added to the bottle." Read more

"Hi there. I have a similar question to Jim. If you are adding sugar to each bottle, should you stir the fermented beer prior to pouring it into the bottles, to evenly distribute any residue etc?" Read more
